ABOUT BRIAN

Brian Harrett began piano lessons at age 6 and by 16 was studying classical piano with Edward Parker of the University of British Columbia. With many years of solid training behind him, including Douglas College music program, Brian began a long and varied live performance career spanning 35 years.

   At age 19 Brian formed a 5 piece rock band called Aladdin and performed elaborate stage shows, complete with special effects and costume changes. Touring Canada extensively throughout the late 70’s as lead singer and front man, Brian polished his own stage personality and audience communication skills.
  

The 1980’s brought a changing music scene and Brian condensed his experience into a rock duo, playing the pubs and clubs of Vancouver. Brian learned all the favourite pub songs by artists such as: Van Morrison, Elvis, CCR, The Eagles, The Beatles and more. It was during this period that Brian began studying jazz piano with acclaimed instructor Lloyd Abrahms.

   In 1986 Brian began a solo act on piano and guitar with state of the art digital backing tracks, and was soon one of the highest paid singles in the city. At this time Brian also became a regular at Victoria’s prestigious Laurel Point Inn. In the Hotel’s piano bar, Cooks Landing, Brian expanded his repertoire to include softer favourites by Lionel Richie, Elton John, and Billy Joel, as well as the classical and jazz standards he had been studying.

   Brian joined popular Vancouver recording artists Silverlode in 1991 and again stepped up his career. Playing all the hot spots in Vancouver for twelve years, Brian enjoyed great success playing  popular music and sing along tunes such as: American Pie, Those Were the Days, Cover of the Rolling Stone, and Sweet Caroline etc.

   With the new millennium Brian looked to expand his horizons once again and began to pursue the lucrative overseas market. Brian played on Bangkok’s popular Royal City Avenue for 3 months as an unplugged style trio, and 6 months in the Grand Hyatt Muscat in Muscat, Oman on the Persian Gulf as a pop and jazz duo.
  

Returning home to assess his next move, Brian played blues and country music in a popular local night spot before setting his sights on the cruise ship industry. After completing 2 successful contracts with Princess Cruises, Brian was asked to perform as a pop duo in Egypt at the Hyatt Regency in Sharm El Sheikh. Brian is now available for all new engagement possibilities.
